Bone of my Bone, Flesh of my Flesh

Doesn't that title come across quite self centered. Adam was only happy if he got someone just like him. There are worlds of differences, I know, but there are like, many more worlds between us and animals.

There's been a number of possible discussions that have traversed through my head in the last 48 hrs that kinda made me think that they belong here. I think I should write a list so that this blog doesn't seccumb to net dust.

I've been thinking for a while, maybe months, that I don't see exactly why we have to wait for marriage before we have sex. Scripturally I don't see it either. In fact my motivation to remain chaste comes more from life experience than anything else. Scripturally the OT doesn't say much. Adultery is having sex with married or betrothed woman. Sexual immorality comes from Leviticus and that refers to people related to you, homosexuality, and beastiality. Stronger cases can be made in the NT. Jesus says that lusting in your mind is adultery. New concept but again we're dealing with adultery which isn't a problem as long as the girls not getting married anytime soon. I know the prophets expanded on the word adultry to mean a breaking of union with God, "you adulterous generation" and so forth but I still don't think that me having sex with some young maiden breaks any forged unions. Paul digs a little deeper in Cor 1. Chp. 7 (Of which I'm sure you've read a hundred times). Yet even here he says it's based on his own authority and not the Lord's. And after just rereading it I'm not sure it is concise. Some people have gifts to be celebate and some don't. He says if you can't control yourself than you should marry. Can't control what? Can't control my God given hormones and libido or can't control a perverse drive to sleep with my relatives. (I imagine if you had homosexual or beastial drives getting married wouldn't help???) Either way I think the whole can't control yourself is vague. Also, do men ever get refered to as virgins? Is that just assumed in the verse below or is the virgin requirement not required of men?

Cor 1 - 7:28 But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you. (KJV)

I know that the general concesus in Christian circles is that you shouldn't have sex before you get married. I remember you saying it once to me when I was in my teens. Maybe this verse is the corner stone for that stance. I don't know. I have a friend who's in the process of getting his masters at trinity and he said that it was a book by Aquinos? or maybe Augustus? that laid the theology for virgin marriage and chastity among Catholic clergy.

Not done yet . . . for now I'd rather error on the side of chastity. I know the diffrence between looking at a woman with curiosity, and awe and looking at one with lust. I know what you mean when you say you can watch pornography and not lust after the girls (I find most porn crude and mechanical) but I think the desire to watch porn is lust. You may not fantasize in your mind of putting yourself in a sexual situation with the pornstar but your desire is to be watching intercourse between two other people. Sex is something that should be done between two people in private. Two become one. When you watch porn you are learning a false example of how sex is supposed to be. It has no relation with what God wants our sex life to be like and I don't believe we can filter out the evil.

People at my church are surprised that I like Sin City. It's fantasy, I know that, I can discern but if i was born in 1940 I think it would sicken me (I don't know) but I'm pretty sure I can only enjoy that movie because of this generations desensitization to sex and violence. In fact I need a movie like Sin City to up the ante just a little more to get a rise out of me, to make it interesting. I think the same goes for pornography. If I watch porn I'll get bored of a normal sex life much faster than the regular progression. I'll need greater and stronger stimulus, often found quick with ease in sin rather than the narrow loving path of God.

I think the context in which pornogrphy is made is immoral. They are being paid to have sex. I see this as prostitution. I don't care if they are willing and even if they love it and get off knowing many people will watch it I still think it's wrong. I don't want to support that in anyway. I don't believe they are really happy or else they have a really low understanding of what happiness is.

Kind of went two diffrent directions here huh? I don't think they contradict each other though and they're obviously of a similar theme. Big difference is that the second opinion would be sanctioned by the church and the first would be opposed but that's how I feel.

NEXT WEEK: Why Mahaffy and French weren't involed in a big sex PARTY, why that grasping after a just world philosophy is poor theology, and why mom had every right to hate Dave Ward for saying it.
